OTTERY ST MARY AFC
are based in Ottery St
Mary, Devon. They were established in 1912 and joined the
South Western League in 1974. After only two seasons, they
moved on to the Western League Division One. It took the
club twelve more seasons to earn a further upward move -
finishing in top slot in 1989-90 earned a place in the
Premier Division. That was to be their high point however.
Two seasons of struggle in the Premier Division ensued, and
after relegation another two seasons of struggle in Division
One. Since the Otters had left the South Western League to
move to the Western League, a new Devon County League had
been formed, and it was there that Ottery headed after
leaving the Western League. They remained in that company
from 1994, with a best placing achieved in the 2005-06
season of 4th, until 2007 when they joined the newly-formed
South West Peninsula League Division One East. They have
competed on a number of occasions in F.A. Competitions. Six
campaigns in the FA Cup were highlighted by a run to the
second qualifying round in 1987-88, where they suffered a
heavy defeat at Saltash United, and haven't played in the
tournament since. In the FA Vase, again success has been
hard to come by with a best of a third round showing in
1980-81. Their last five entries have led to an exit at the
first attempt.
